War and Pride, Carabinieri Against Vannacci: “He Throws Mud on the Uniform, Fuels Divisions and Intolerance”

The union after the statements at a rally: "It offends, discriminates and risks legitimizing forms of verbal and social violence that WE ARE committed to fighting every day"
Open clash over the words of the Lega Nord MEP Roberto Vannacci , the general, after the politician's statements in a rally in San Marco in Lamis , in the province of Foggia, last June 26. Statements from a "world upside down", to quote the bestseller, seasoned with sarcasm about pride and war which however this time did not only offend associations of the LGBT galaxy and similar but also the national secretary of the New Carabinieri Union , NSC, Vincenzo Incampo , who responded to the Lega Nord MP with a very harsh statement.
Nothing new for the repertoire of the former commander of the Military Geographic Institute who became famous after the publication of Il mondo al contrario , a book in which he expressed openly homophobic, racist, sexist and generally offensive ideas and positions. That self-published book had brought him closer to the right, it had become one of the best-selling books of 2023. A formal investigation had been opened by the Ministry of Defense on the publication. Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, Fratelli d'Italia, had spoken of " ravings ". Secretary Matteo Salvini had nominated Vannacci for the European elections: over 500 thousand votes collected.
For the trade unionist, the words of the former high military officer "throw mud at many men and women in uniform who, with dedication and sense of state, work daily to protect the rights of all, fighting against all forms of discrimination and violence", the same people who, on the one hand, choose silence in public contexts, "are profoundly opposed to this type of thinking and the aggressive method with which it is exposed". Words that for Incampo "fuel a climate of division and intolerance that we cannot afford to ignore" in a historical moment "in which international tensions are once again threatening peace, those who sit in European institutions should commit to preventing conflicts and not evoke them or make fun of possible war scenarios".
The Carabinieri attack on General VannacciGeneral Vannacci, Enough Now!
These ways and statements do not belong to us:
As a member of the Police Force and National Secretary of the New Carabinieri Union, I feel the duty to publicly express my dissent with respect to the statements made during the rally held on June 26, 2025 in San Marco in Lamis (FG). Ironically about who to "send to the front", he literally cited "the gentlemen of Gay Pride", with a sarcastic tone that cannot be trivialized and reduced to a "simple joke".
It is a statement that, even if masked by irony, offends, discriminates and risks legitimizing forms of verbal and social violence that every day, in our silent work, WE ARE RIGHT TO COUNTER. Such repeated attitudes by a former high-ranking Military Officer, throw mud on the many men and women in uniform who, with dedication and sense of State, are committed daily to protecting the rights of all, countering every form of discrimination and violence.
Fortunately, we are not all like this. Indeed, the vast majority of those who serve the State - even if they often choose to remain silent or prefer not to expose themselves publicly on these issues - are profoundly opposed to this type of thinking and the aggressive method with which it is exposed. Those who wear a uniform have sworn allegiance to the Constitution. An oath that is not a symbolic act, but a concrete commitment to defend the fundamental values of the Republic: the dignity of the person, equality, freedom.
General Vannacci's words, however, seem to go in the opposite direction, fueling a climate of division and intolerance that we cannot afford to ignore. The task of those who serve the State - both in the political and military spheres - is not to exacerbate differences, but to promote cohesion, respect and justice. In a historical moment in which international tensions are once again threatening peace, those who sit in European institutions should commit to preventing conflicts and not evoke them or joke about possible war scenarios.
The problem is not who to send to war, dear General, but how to prevent humanity from still thinking that war is a solution in 2025, after two devastating world wars and many ongoing conflicts. The police and all those who have sworn an oath to the Italian Republic are not and will never be instruments of discrimination. We are at the service of all citizens, without distinction. And we will continue to be so, with firmness and with respect for our Constitution.
If this last intervention of yours was a banal attempt to start your own regional election campaign in Puglia, then it is good that the Honourable Vannacci knows that this method will backfire on you because the people of Puglia are good, conscientious and principled people.
Vincenzo Incampo, One of the many who have sworn allegiance to the Italian Republic!
